MONTREAL September 2008 – The Segal Centre for Performing
Arts is proud to announce the creation of La Série Power Jazz Series,
presented by the Power Corporation of Canada. The series will begin on September
28th with a premiere concert by the The Chet Doxas Quartet, followed thereafter
by five more concerts featuring some of the finest names in Montreal Jazz: The
Dave Watts Quintet; The Remi Jean Leblanc Ensemble, featuring Yannick Rieu;
The John Gilbert Ensemble; Bill Mahar and the Altsys Big Band; and Jon Roney
with the Silverbirch Jazz String Quartet
“The series is intended to expose Montrealers to the great jazz talent
that exists in the city,” says Director of Music Education George Doxas,
“and also to inspire the music students of our Academy to advance as professional
performers.”
The creation of La Série Power Jazz Series hopefully marks the launch
of Montreal’s next top jazz venue. Although the city’s jazz scene
is traditionally experienced downtown, the Segal Centre’s intention is
to expose a wider audience to Montreal’s great jazz artists by bringing
them to the west end on a regular basis.
The series commences with The Chet Doxas Quartet. An accomplished saxophonist,
composer, and arranger, Doxas’s work can be heard on over 80 CD’s.
Most notably, Chet’s playing was featured on the Academy and Grammy Award
nominated soundtrack of “Les Triplettes de Belleville”.

“This series offers a varied program, featuring the city’s finest
artists and emerging talent,” said Bryna Wasserman, the Center’s
Artistic and Executive Director. “It is sure to please jazz lovers as
well as those newly initiated. This is yet another step towards placing the
Segal Centre at the hub of Montreal’s performing arts scene.”
