Montreal, September 2008 - The Segal Centre for Performing Arts
is proud to announce the second season of its educational performance series with
Sun Life Financial aboard as title sponsor of the Centre’s rapidly growing
program for students.
The series was launched last season together with The Schulich School of Music
of McGill University, dedicated to bringing excellence in education and performance
art to the community at large. This season, the series also includes performances
of the Segal Centres award-winning English language theatre at discounted rates
for school groups.
“The music component of the series exposes Montreal area high school
students to a variety of instrumental musical genres in an intimate concert
setting,” said program director, George Doxas. Gisele Rucker, the director
of the Segal Centre’s Academy of Performing Arts echoed Doxas in saying
that “the four concerts will merge young virtuosos with young audiences
and are aimed at capturing the imagination of performer and listener alike.”
“We launched this series a year ago with intention of delivering a groundbreaking,
exciting and informative program for the benefit of the youth of Montreal,”
said Bryna Wasserman, Artistic and Executive Director of the Centre. “We
are encouraged to have such a venerable company as Sun Life Financial as our
partner, sharing in the belief that our future begins today, with the youth
of our community.”
“The Schulich concerts were a highlight of the season last year,”
Wasserman continued. They inaugurated our Studio space with zest, enthusiasm
and a youthful vigor that we never could have imagined. For performers and students
alike the concerts were magical, setting the stage for what we know will be
a great sophomore session.”
